NOTICE OF SETTLEMENT: For Qualifying Owners of Property on Which Certain Organic Asphalt Shingles Manufactured by CertainTeed Corporation Are or Have Been Installed.

You Could Get A Payment From A Class Action Settlement.

The purpose of this website is to supply useful information, summaries of the Settlement Agreement, and links to relevant documents for Settlement Class Members and others interested in the Settlement. This website is not intended to describe or summarize all of the terms and conditions of the Settlement. The complete Settlement Agreement and any court orders define all of those details and govern the rights and liabilities of Settlement Class Members and CertainTeed. If there is any conflict between the provisions of this website, or the provisions of any forms contained on this website, and the terms of the Settlement Agreement, the terms of the Settlement Agreement control. Legal developments and amendments to the Settlement Agreement may cause information on this website to become outdated.

If you are a member of the class, the Settlement will affect your rights.

This website explains:

  • What this class action lawsuit is about.
  • Who is a Member of the Settlement Class.
  • What benefits are available to Settlement Class members and who is eligible to get them.
  • How to apply for the benefits.

  • This Settlement resolves a lawsuit over whether or not Organic Roofing Shingles manufactured by the Defendant, CertainTeed Corporation, from July 1, 1987 through 2005 are defective and failed to perform as promised when installed on buildings located in the United States and Canada.

  • The Settlement provides cash payments to qualifying people in the United States and Canada to provide compensation in instances where the Organic Shingles show premature deterioration that is likely caused by a product defect.

  • The Court in charge of this case approved the Settlement on September 1, 2010. The Settlement Agreement became effective on October 2, 2010, and CertainTeed is processing and paying claims.

  • You must timely file a claim form and fit the definition of an Eligible Claimant in order to receive a cash payment. Because years have passed since the Settlement Agreement was approved and became effective, many of the claims deadlines have passed. AT PRESENT, ONLY BUILDING OWNERS WHOSE SHINGLES ARE STILL UNDER WARRANTY ARE ELIGIBLE TO MAKE A CLAIM UNDER THE SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT. If you acquired a building on which CertainTeed Organic Shingles were installed when you acquired the building, and you acquired the building from someone other than the builder or the original purchaser of the shingles, you are encouraged to contact CertainTeed before submitting a claim form in order to determine the continuing viability of your claim.

  • If you have CertainTeed Organic Shingles on your roof, please read this website carefully.
